Meet Dr. Matthew Sloan

Dr. Matthew Sloan is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon (ABOS) and fellowship-trained specialist in hip and knee replacement. He serves as the Director of Robotics in Orthopedic Surgery at Emerson Health in Concord, Massachusetts, and is one of the highest-volume robotic joint replacement surgeons in New England.

A Massachusetts native, Dr. Sloan earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania, one of the most prestigious and oldest orthopedic training programs in the country. During his five years of training, he worked alongside national leaders in joint replacement and performed a high volume of primary and complex joint reconstruction procedures.

Following residency, Dr. Sloan was selected for the highly competitive total joint replacement fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School. There, he received advanced training in:

• Partial knee replacement
• Custom total knee replacement
• Robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement
• Anterior hip replacement
• Outpatient joint replacement
• Complex and revision joint replacement

Dr. Sloan serves as the Director of Robotics in Orthopedic Surgery at Emerson Health, where he leads the advancement of robotic-assisted joint replacement techniques.

He practices at Orthopedic Affiliates in Concord, Massachusetts, where he was the first fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeon to bring advanced surgical techniques from Boston to the Emerson Hospital community.

In addition to primary joint replacement, Dr. Sloan has introduced specialized expertise in:
