Distal Femoral Cut for Total Knee Replacement
The mechanical axis is found by drawing a line from the center of the femoral head through the center of the knee joint and down to the center of the ankle. Because we stand upright and our femur starts away from midline at the top to allow for rotational motion, the anatomical axis of the femur is in 6 degrees of valgus (on average) from the mechanical axis.
Activity Modification for Arthritis
The least invasive, easiest way to decrease symptoms from arthritis is to avoid activities that cause pain. This is what we call “activity modification”.
